Gradual Improvement with a Strong Start and Solid Finish Kathryn Shakal from Phoenix, AZ participated in the 2025 Phoenix Marathon 10K, representing the Phoenix Catholic Run Club. Kathryn displayed a promising start with her first mile averaging an 11:48 min/mile pace. Throughout the race, she progressively improved her pace, with the most notable acceleration happening between the second and third miles, where she transitioned from an 11:25 to a 11:10 min/mile pace. Her performance by the fourth mile showed consistency as she maintained slightly faster than an 11-minute pace. In the latter part of the race, Kathryn faced a slower fifth mile, clocking 14:01 min/mile. However, she managed a commendable recovery in her final mile, finishing with an overall time of 1:14:32 and an average pace of 12:01 min/mile. This consistency illustrates her potential in sustaining a solid pace towards the race's end. Continual focus on pacing strategy may help optimize such transitions in future events.
