Consistent Start with Late Slowdown Cory Simons began his half marathon at the 2025 Phoenix Marathon, maintaining a consistent pace first through the fifth mile, with initial mile splits of roughly 8:07 to 9:02 minutes per mile. His position shifted from 293rd overall in the first mile to 502nd by the fifth mile, maintaining a solid standing in his division, M35-39, as he adjusted to the dynamics of the race. Notably, his overall pace was steady in the earlier miles, highlighting a solid start. In the latter part of the race, a noticeable slowdown occurred, with splits rising to 10:58 minutes per mile by the 10th mile and peaking at 14:53 minutes in the 11th mile. However, Cory completed the event in 2:11:15, an overall pace of 10:01 minutes per mile. Focusing on maintaining a more even pace in the later stages could help improve future performances.
